Mastery is an inspirational book filled with captivating stories of renowned masters like Mozart, Leonardo, Faraday... It highlights the long arduous journey of these geniuses generally hidden behind their popular stories.

The likes of Mozart, Leonardo, Faraday, and multiple others experienced years of struggle and practiced disciplined routines for years long before they gained wide recognitions. None of them was a born genius, every single one of them molded themself into one. The book warns and shows, that we knowingly ignore this true, mundane part of their life and want to believe that these people were extraordinary, to begin with.

These masters faced setbacks, failures, and obstacles in their journey. But they capitalized on their circumstances to the fullest. Benjamin Franklin was deceived with false promises, Darwin was doubted and considered failure compared to his brother, Leonardo was considered a boaster when he failed to deliver on his promise of building the biggest statue, Procust first novel was ridiculed and stated as a shallow novel, even Faraday was declined a simple position as a lab assistant. How Shocking do these events look now?

The book suggests certain strategies for becoming a master in any field such as:

  • Emphasizing on the value of learning over anything else,
  • Finding a mentor(s), Observing your workplace and Learning the rules
  • Developing social intelligence, Finding creative insights,
  • Breaking the rules and eventually surpassing your mentor to become a master yourself.

A great book indeed. Do skip the few parts that you don't like but the book is filled with some gem stories and lessons.
